Adventure Fund

If you have a Pinterest board that has the word "adventure" or "wanderlust" in the title, then this post is for you. After dreaming about these images, I decided to DIY-myself a jar and see how much change I could save.

I read that the TSA makes over $400,000 a year from change left at checkpoints (whoa.), so I decided my pocket change would probably add up faster than I'd expect. In fact, my aunt and uncle once bought a fridge from change they collected over time! I'm inspired.

I put two lines on the side of my jar with washi tape, so I'll see my progress and celebrate once I reach a goal! Decorating the jar was easy as pie, and I'm glad I did because now I feel more motivated to put my spare change in the special adventure fund, complete with zig-zaggy goal markers. It's very official.

Here's to saving some change and going on bigger adventures! I'm thinking Paris and Milan. Hey, a girl can dream, right? Clearly, I've already saved at least enough to get to Branson.

Au revoir, ciao, bisous, sayonara!

Wordy Wednesday: Quotidian

Happy Wednesday! Here's my word today:

Quotidian. Quotidian, as you can see, means something that is commonplace, or everyday. I like this word because it's a super flowery way to use to describe regular things. It reminds me that there's beauty in the day-to-day; you just have to be looking for it.

Word: Quotidian
Definition: Everyday, commonplace, etc.
Earliest known use: 14th century
Use it in a sentence: Hopefully, my quotidian cup of coffee will bring me out of the mid-morning lazy daze.

Things I Heart

Happy Valentine's Day! Here are a few things that have me tickled pink this week.

My new "I-mean-business" shoes.

My favorite chai latte in town. Full disclosure: This is not a chai latte. It is a mocha.

Candy Hearts. And #rejectedcandyhearts, if you're on Twitter.

And pizza. Okay, so I dropped the "heart" theme, (insert cardiovascular joke here) but how could I list things I like without mentioning pizza?

Breakfast of Champions: Stayin' Healthy

The city I live in has about 150,000 residents, and I’m pretty sure 140,000 of them have been sick over the last few weeks (myself included). I was researching foods to boost immune system strength, so while I was learning, I realized I could make a great breakfast for stayin’ healthy!

Oatmeal. There’s a reason your grandparents love oatmeal. It’s great for the immune system! It contains a certain type of fiber, called beta-gluten fiber, which protects against heart disease and fights off the common cold. Even though the fiber in oats is called beta-gluten, there is a small enough amount of gluten in oatmeal that most people living a g-free lifestyle can still eat oatmeal.

Walnuts and blueberries! Walnuts, like most nuts, are high in protein and vitamins. Walnuts contain a high amount of omega 3, which is a fatty acid that our bodies need for cell growth and immune function. We can’t naturally produce omega 3, so walnuts are good for the extra supplements. Blueberries are packed with antioxidants and vitamin C.

Also, milk and brown sugar. Because that makes oatmeal taste better.

Chamomile tea. This particular tea has anti-bacterial properties, so it can help you fight off an upcoming infection, and it can help you recover from a cough or cold faster.

Basically, after eating this breakfast I’m never going to get sick ever again. Like, ever.
