Top Picks from Target's New Opalhouse Collection

Have you seen the new Opalhouse collection at Target?! The big box retailer is killin' it these days with a quirky, vintage and global-inspired new line. If you haven't made it to your local Target yet to snag some of these goods, I'm sharing my favorite top buys from Opalhouse's decor. Their kitchen accessories are so good, I could write a-whole-nother post on those, too.

According to the Target blog, they here sent their design team to cities like Aix-en-Provence, Lisbon, Paris and Mallorca to gain inspiration, and it shows! (Target, if you're reading this, I volunteer to be part of your design team. 😉) Anyway, back to the topic: Here are the affordable home embellishments you'll be eyeing this spring.

1. Rugs. Opalhouse has a ton of cute, small rugs for bathrooms, kitchens and the like, but this one stopped me in my tracks. It's low pile, wool and a versatile enough design that it would hold its own anywhere in your house.
2. This chandelier that convinced me I need a chandelier. Ok, so we rent and this beauty needs to be hardwired, so I'm not going to be purchasing. But the vintage-inspired design reminds me of some chandeliers in my friends homes that I've begged them not to switch out, so it made me smile. Plus, it's a good deal for the price if you're flipping a house or want a lower-priced fixture for your own!
3. The stand that will transform your plants from almost-dead to beautiful, lush and green. Maybe. It's worth a shot! You should probably still water them, though.
4.  Cute and affordable printed sheets? I'm in. I definitely would have registered for these for our wedding if Opalhouse existed 6 months ago.
5. Removable wallpaper! I honestly thing Target has done the best job so far of making wallpaper accessible, no matter your lifestyle or budget. Perfect for apartment-dwellers and statement walls when you want to commit, but only kind of. There are really so many things you could do with these with a little creativity.
6. Pretty sure Target saw this Anthropologie pillow I've been eyeing for a year and then gave us this.
7. Lots of the Opalhouse shower curtains look like designer curtains for only $24.99. Sadly, my favorite curtain is sold out already, but here's another option I like.

A Peek at my Living Room

Happy Friday! Even though I work from home now, I'm always excited when the weekend comes. It gives me extra time to do some tidying up, deep cleaning and have some of my favorite people over (only when it's clean though, ha). Even though I've lived in my loft for over a year, it's taken me a while to feel like this room was "finished". And confession: I still don't feel like I'm totally finished with the space! But I'm making progress on the rest of the space, so I wanted to show you what I'm working with in the living area.

The main room in my loft is a big area that I've chosen to split into two living spaces. This is the front one — what you see as soon as you walk in the door — and I'm using the other half of the space as a dining area. I don't have any partition up or anything like that, so you can still see this part of the room even if you're eating spaghetti or something at the dining room table.

I've had so much fun playing around with this space and making it feel cozy and welcoming. My sweet roommate, Merry, and I shared the space for a year, and now I'm making some updates as Austin, my future husband (omg HUSBAND), is going to move in after our October wedding. All exciting, fun things!

I rearrange my coffee table pretty often, but it's usually some combination of candles and plants (#millennial), and usually, it's because the plants died. Whoops! (I'm working on this. I promise.)

I personally like a living room that's not centered around a tv, so I've done my best to make the tv feel like an 'accessory' in the space rather than the room's focal point. Although, for practical reasons, I totally understand why most Americans center the room around the tv — and I kind of have too — so... I guess Netflix won.

Although my loft is pretty industrial, I've tried to make it feel more modern by adding some brighter, airy touches (like the CUTE curtains I bought but haven't found a ladder tall enough to hang them with, ha). Someday I'll have curtains. I look forward to that day. 

Also, shoutout to these IKEA sofas that are way more comfortable than any IKEA sofa should be. The seat cushions on them are extra deep, which means they're great for cuddling up on to watch a movie or just a few dozen episodes of New Girl.

My Current Color Crush

Have you ever gotten a color stuck in your head? I know if I have a T. Swift song in my head for days, the best way to shake it off is to just listen to it. Somehow listening to the song that's stuck in your head makes it un-stuck. It seems counter-intuitive, but it always works for me! With that logic, I figured the best way to get a color un-stuck from my head is making a blog post about it. I'll let you know if it works.

Anyway, for some reason I can't get this chartreuse shade outta my brain! I've been planning for a while to use different neutrals, blues and blush in the living room of my new loft, and in the back of my head, I keep thinking I'll add in a little chartreuse. Merry and I toured the loft a couple months before our lease began, and when we got to move-in day, I was pleasantly surprised our hanging kitchen lights are this exact color. (Which is probably why I've been thinking about it... because it was Inception'd into my brain.)

So, here's a little mood board inspired by Mrs. Meyer's and my current favorite summery shade:

I love how this color can feel young and vibrant, but in small doses, it can also feel sophisticated and modern (lookin' at you, West Elm rug!) I've also had to talk myself out of buying that Target candle (number two) about four times by now. P.S. If you're local to Springfield, MO, you can get the Capri Blue candle (number three) at The Market — it's one of the pretty things pictured in "The Dos and Don'ts of Burning Candles."
